Thailand is served by two major airports in Bangkok: Don Mueang (DMK) and Suvarnabhumi (BKK), both offering direct flights from numerous countries worldwide.

Bangkok is a key hub for air travel in Southeast Asia, meaning if you’re exploring this region, chances are you’ll pass through one of these airports at some point during your journey.

Don Mueang primarily handles domestic and regional flights, often operated by budget airlines, while Suvarnabhumi caters to a wider range of international destinations. Additionally, smaller airports in popular tourist destinations like Krabi, Phuket, and Koh Samui are accessible mainly via domestic flights.

Thailand is a generally safe destination for travelers, boasting a low violent crime rate of just 3.24 per 100,000 inhabitants—48% below the global average. Having explored numerous regions of the country, I’ve encountered minimal instances of crime during my travels.

That said, the primary safety concerns in Thailand are motorbike accidents and natural risks, such as dengue fever. To stay protected, especially in rural areas, it’s essential to use mosquito repellent, particularly during the rainy season. By taking these simple precautions, you can enjoy a safe and memorable trip to this beautiful country.

Thailand enjoys a tropical climate, meaning warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year. In Phuket and along the Andaman Sea, the rainy season typically spans from May to October, while the sunny season runs from November to April.

Traveling during the rainy season is still a great option, but it’s wise to plan for a few extra days as a buffer in case of unpredictable weather. This way, you can make the most of your trip, rain or shine!

Thailand is an incredibly budget-friendly destination, offering affordable accommodations and dining options. Hotels start as low as 180 Baht ($5 USD), while private hotels can be found from 360 Baht. Meals are equally economical, typically costing between 50 to 200 Baht, depending on where you dine.

For getting around, transportation options include renting a motorbike or car, though hiring a driver can often be a more convenient choice. While the Grab app is available in Thailand, prices tend to be higher than usual due to price-fixing practices within the local taxi industry. Despite this, Thailand remains an accessible and cost-effective travel destination for all types of travelers.
